Jamie Medlin - Marine Artist
Jamie Medlin is a Marine Artist producing work with a difference. His unparalleled attention to detail makes him stand out from the crowd making him unrivalled in realistic Maritime Art.
His photographic style, based on detail and accuracy gained from his background in illustration, combine perfectly with an understanding of light and a natural eye, leading to paintings with mood, atmosphere and true quality, which enable him to portray scenes and events as they actually were.
Such a style has enabled Jamie to build a name for himself as a talented marine artist both in Cornwall, where he lives, and on a national and international level with his ever growing list of galleries, outlets and clients.
Jamie’s main outlet for original work is now Christies in London where he submits regularly to their Spring and Autumn Marine Art sales. Being a regular consignor to Christies has led to a heightened awareness of his work with some of the biggest names in maritime art collecting Jamie’s paintings. Christies have said about Jamie –
“Jamie is one of the most compelling young artists in the contemporary Maritime arena”.
This success has led to some very high profile commissions, including paintings of 'Lulworth', for owner Johan van den Bruele, two paintings of the world’s largest privately owned clipper ship - 'The Maltese Falcon', for venture capitalist Tom Perkins and more recently, has completed a painting for Eric Clapton of his motor yacht 'Va Bene', with a second just being commissioned.
Jamie now has artwork featured in marine art publications about some of the most prominent classic yachts sailing today, including Lulworth, Mariquita and Mariette with others on the way.
Due to this success, there are no original artworks for sale at the moment. There will be two new pieces available at the next Christies auction in May. Keep an eye on this site to see them as they are completed.
The painting featured above is this year’s submission for Christie’s auction which took place on 24thNovember. (Please go to www.christies.com to see further details). It is of one of the world’s most beautiful yachts, ‘Mariquita’ during last year’s Pendennis Cup in Falmouth.
Below is another new addition to the portfolio. It is ‘Classics off the Squadron’ painted for a private collector of maritime art and is of the 2008 Westward Cup. Go to the ‘Gallery’ section to see other new additions.
