Falmouth Working Boats

This is where it all started!  Here you’ll find images of the Falmouth Working Boats, which is originally what I started painting thanks to an old friend of my dad, a very famous local artist – Tony Warren.  Tony gave me my first painting lessons, paints, brushes and some photo’s of the local working boats and sent me away to practice!

The images are of the Falmouth Working Boats both in their winter and summer rigs.  Most of the boats are used for one purpose, either dredging for oysters during the winter months between October to March, or they’ll race in the summer months, however there are some which convert rigs and do both, one being Timmy Vinnicombe with his boat Boy Willie.

The dredgers are the only working boats to ply their trade solely under sail in the whole of Western Europe.

I’m absolutely delighted to announce the biggest gathering of my work to date will be brought together in an exhibition at Falmouth Art Gallery this spring.

The exhibition will be a retrospective, borrowing back the best artworks from my clients countrywide, showcasing a crossover of my scenic and yachting work from my 38 year career in maritime art.

It will feature 35 of my favourite paintings along with some selected artworks by some of the town’s most notable artists, highlighting the rich tradition of maritime painting in Falmouth.

The exhibition will open to the public from 20 April – 29 June, with demonstrations, Q&A sessions and much more.
