I love the Helford; as does anyone that knows it – it’s a very special place. Whether it be dog walks, summer beach days, family holiday memories or a childhood spent there; it means a lot to many people.
Twice a year (during February and October) the sun will set at the end of the estuary, which to me, adds another element. I’d been planning this painting for months, so was just hoping that the weather conditions would be suitable and provide what I was hoping for – a sunset you would only get during the autumnal or spring months when the colours are more intense or sultry, with more mood and atmosphere than you’d typically get during the summer months.
I made several trips that week as the first few visits didn’t materialise the way I’d hoped for. This night however – it all came together and the planning came off.
