A near disaster – the Kuzma Minin grounded off Gyllyngvase

On the 18th December 2018 the Russian owned cargo ship the Kuzma Minin dragged her anchor whilst being moored in Falmouth Bay to shelter from a forecast storm. The storm drove her straight into Gyllyngvase Beach where she rested on the rocks. After a huge effort by local crews from the Coastguard, the Lifeboats, tugs and pilots, they managed to float her on the very next high tide and avoid what could of been an environmental catastrophe for our area.
