Classic Yachts

Light Airs to the Finish

During the 2007 Les Voiles de St.Tropez, I was thrilled to finally see Eleonora – the replica of the legendary classic yacht Westward and she certainly was a sight to behold.

With overcast conditions, I had little hope of it being a day that would produce any reference worthy of painting.  As we headed home, the cloud started to break over the hills as the sun was dropping behind the iconic St.Tropez skyline.   The eeriest and moodiest of skies developed directly behind the finish line and I had the pleasure of following my favourite classic yachts to the finish    Mariquita, Lulworth and Eleonora.   With that backdrop, it was a very special moment and an image that will stay with me forever.  This is my depiction of that scene . . . .

I’m absolutely delighted to announce the biggest gathering of my work to date will be brought together in an exhibition at Falmouth Art Gallery this spring.

The exhibition will be a retrospective, borrowing back the best artworks from my clients countrywide, showcasing a crossover of my scenic and yachting work from my 38 year career in maritime art.

It will feature 35 of my favourite paintings along with some selected artworks by some of the town’s most notable artists, highlighting the rich tradition of maritime painting in Falmouth.

The exhibition will open to the public from 20 April – 29 June, with demonstrations, Q&A sessions and much more.
